The SC Junior Scholars Program, now in its 24th year, identifies 8th grade students who possess a high level of verbal, writing, and/or mathematical proficiency. Once identified, the program offers special programs to meet these students' needs.
Eighth grade students who scored advance/proficient in English Language Arts and Mathematics on the PACT(Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test) were eligible to take the PSAT(Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) in the fall. In order to be identified as a South Carolina Junior Scholar, a student must have obtained on the PSAT a score greater than or equal to 50 on the verbal, math, and/or writing sections of the test.
This year, 21 eighth graders took the PSAT in October. We had 10 students to score 50 or higher in one or more of these areas:
Chase Felkel, Todd Folk, Player Long, George McIntosh, Nathan Kearse,Kelly Ramsey,Landon Sandifer, Kyle Stokes, Elsa Thomas, Alexis Toomer.
Outstanding!
